Ho letto sullo Scarpone due righe vaghe sulla morte di Walter Phillip. Pare di capire che è morto arrampicando. Aperta la via sulla NO della Civetta assieme a Flamm, aveva smesso del tutto dopo un volo terribile sulle Lavaredo fermato a pochi cm da terra. Qualcuno ha notizie più dettagliate?

Ti riferisci all'articolo di Paola Favero nel numero di marzo?
Io poi ho cercato in rete e ho trovato solo questo, ripetuto in alcuni siti universitari. Da un'altra parte dicono in più che è successo vicino a Graz.

He published more than 70 publications, including two monographs and gave more than 100 invited lectures given in the United States, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Soviet Union, England, Switzerland, and Canada. He was a Fellow, Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and an Elected member, International Statistical Institute. Philipp was an avid climber, making many first and repeat climbs in the 1950s. The Philipp-Flamm route in the Dolomites, for which he was named one of the top 100 climbers of the century, was considered a rite of passage for many famous climbers.

Mi apri un universo. Lavoro in quell'ambito e conosco varie pubblicazioni scientifiche a nome Philipp, ma non mi era mai venuto il sospetto che una o più di quelle potessero essere riconducibili al Philipp in questione.

Già. Prova a dare un'occhiata al web of science.... (attenzione che ce ne sono due con quel nome: escludi le scienze bio-mediche).
